Some users reported better install success from USB instead of using DVD
Avoid USB3 port to write and/or read USB sticks, USB2 is the safest option

To copy ISOs on USB flash stick you can use unetbootin or simply the commands below

ROSA 2012 x64

Code: Select all

dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdX bs=8M ; dd if=/your_path/ROSA.2012.MARATHON.EE.x86_64.iso of=/dev/sdX ; sync
ROSA 2012 x32

Code: Select all

dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdX bs=8M ; dd if=/your_path/ROSA.2012.MARATHON.EE.i586.iso of=/dev/sdX ; sync
Where X in sdX is your flash USB device name, that you can discover using the command

Code: Select all

df -h
We suggest to insert the USB device only in a USB2 port, in USB3 port often the boot stops with a dracut error

Many kudos to all ROSA friends for their collaboration!

Thanks for this, but can you please explain the following things

I have installed ROSA 2012 and have updated to kde 4.8.3 from one testing repository which was posted in MIB few days back. Also I have installed the latest kernel from
MIB 3.2.18-nrj-desktop-1rosa.lts and have also updated the draktools because of some bug.

Do I need to download the ISO and install it.

The ISO you have mentioned has KDE 4.8.3. Is it KDE provided by ROSA or is it something that MIB has provided.

Thanks.
Arun

No, you don't need download, you have already installed the same contents of the ISOs

KDE 4.8.3 is the future official update for ROSA 2012 MARATHON, that now is in testing

New ISOs can be usefull on newer installations, so there will be less updates to do

Thanks Nico,

1 suggestion. It appears that ROSA uses a lot of memory compared to other Mandriva Based Distros/Ex-distros like PCLINUXOS/MANDRIVA 2010.3/Mageia.

Can't MIB do something to get the memory usage down in the community distro. That would be very helpful. ROSA works beautifully but then the memory
is always on the higher side.

Regards,
Arun

Also, is there a MIB repository for ROSA just like we have for Mandriva. That would be very useful in case we want to get the latest applications like firefox 12 etc

A different subject, when will the MIB 2010.3 be available..... eager to use that when it is ready ......

Keep up the good work.

Regards,
Arun

ROSA engineers informed me in realtime, that this problem is currently investigated

Yes, we are preparing it, here > http://mib.pianetalinux.org/MIB/rosa2012lts/

MIB 2010.3 is a work in progress, many customers are already using it
Now it can be used with repositories MIB 2010.2 or by alone MIB 2010.3
We'll port many new titles from MIB 2010.2 to MIB 2010.3 progressively
First feedback is very good:
The only reported problems are vlc and gimp conflicts
so add 2010.3 repo, remove old vlc and gimp version
then you can give the command to update everything
at the end you can install new vlc and gimp
