* hai una scheda basata sul 965 con 256 MB di VRAM e il DRI2 sembra correttamente inizializzato: io controllerei che lo sia anche il KMS (anche se le due cose dovrebbero andare di pari passo)...
un bel "dmesg |grep drm" con uno dei kernel problematici che ti dice? Se non trovi un messaggio del tipo "xxx kernel modesetting enabled", anche questo potrebbe essere un problema nel momento in cui parte il xserver e poi KDE;

* ad ogni buon conto, il caricamente dell'xserver sembrerebbe andato a buon fine (non ci sono errori o warning seri nel tuo Xorg.0.log) il che farebbe sospettare che il colpevole sia Kwin (stai usando quello, vero? Niente Compiz od altre stupidaggini simili...?) o, almeno, l'interazione di questo con il resto dello stack grafico....

What is the best sequence of procedures to take a fresh install of 2010.2 x86_64 and update it to 2010.3 including KDE 4.8.4? I've tried this twice and am screwing things up royally.

Edit: What I'm trying to do is something I've done at least 20 times on various machines. Today for some reason I can't get anything right... Right now I've got a system so hosed that posting specifics may be futile. If so I'll install again and do one step and post again.
Thanks,
Ben

Okay. Something to report. In a fresh install today of 2010.2 x86_64. Current KDE:

Code: Select all

# rpm -qa | grep task-kde4
task-kde4-minimal-4.4.3-1mdv2010.1
task-kde4-4.4.3-1mdv2010.1
1. Updated with official repos Main, Main Updates, Main32, Main32 Updates, Contrib, Contrib Updates, Non-Free, and Non-Free Updates enabled.

2. Next, as per 1st post in this thread, I enabled Main Backports, Contrib Backports, and Non-Free Backports as well as MIB 2010.3 64 Basic, 64 Experts, 32 Basic, and 32 Experts. Here's what I'm getting:

Proceed with the installation of the 91 packages? (Y/n)
1st question is what's up with the "In order to satisfy the 'kde-l10n-hu|kde-l10n-ga|kde-l10n-kk..." request? Not one of those language packs is needed for a English only system. That seems both weird and wrong.

2nd question is why won't KDE 4.8.4 install?

Code: Select all

Some requested packages cannot be installed:
amarok-scripts-2.5.0-69.3mib2010.2.noarch (due to conflicts with amarok-scripts-2.3.2-1mdv2010.1.x86_64)
kipi-plugins-2.9.0-69mib2010.2.noarch (due to conflicts with kipi-plugins-1.6.0-1mdv2010.1.x86_64)
task-kde4-4.8.4-69.1mib2010.2.noarch (due to unsatisfied task-kde4-minimal[== 1:4.8.4-69.1mib2010.2])
task-kde4-minimal-4.8.4-69.1mib2010.2.noarch (due to unsatisfied kwallet-4.8.4-69.1mib2010.2.i686)
Continue installation anyway? (Y/n)
And why is urpmi calling for i686 kwallet? There is a kwallet x86_64 in the Basic 64 repo.

What the heck am I doing wrong?

Disabling 2010.3 32 bit repos does not correct this nor does using --strict-arch.
Thanks,
Ben

Re: MIB Mandriva 2010.3 repositories

Post by NicCo »

I believe you are missing, at elast, the plf repos, and I believe you have some repo misconfigured

BTW, we have a very useful section where there are the tested strings to add repositories (all)

Guides & Tutorials
viewforum.php?f=21&sid=59

all these guides have been used for daily installation, so are the most tested

before, for kde 4.5.5, we used this
Liste repositories per Mandriva 2010.2 - MDV+PLF+MIB+KDE455
viewtopic.php?f=21&t=2612

now for KDE 4.8

You could use this, then add 2010.3 repositories
Liste repositories per Mandriva 2010.2 - MDV+PLF+MIB
viewtopic.php?f=21&t=2611

P.S: It may be useful a new Guide to config repo for 2010 with KDE 4.8
with unified scirpts, but i need to find the necassary time first to test all and prepare it
now i am too involved in developing and preparing kernels and I have had no time...

urpmi and drakrpm are crapy softwares.

you must unactivate 32 bit packet sources. if you don't do this then urpmi and drakrpm install 64 bit soft with 32 bit parts !!!

activate 32 bit packet source just during installation of a 32 bit soft which have not a 64 bit version then unactivate them.

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind when I get back to this. Probably won't deal with this to much till Wednesday.

Thanks NicCo. Installing repositories from here:

viewtopic.php?f=21&t=2611

and here:

viewtopic.php?f=38&t=3299

Allowed me to update 2010.2 x86_64 to KDE 4.8.4 along with many other more up to date packages. Currently using kernel-nrj-desktop-3.5.6 and nvidia 304.60 from nvidia web site.

Re: MIB Mandriva 2010.3 repositories

Post by akiro »

Qualche idea?
