Skype dependency problem

Post by xircon »

Trying to install Skype and I get:

Code: Select all

 urpmi -a skype-2.1.0.81-69.1mib2010.1.i686.rpm
The following packages can't be installed because they depend on packages
that are older than the installed ones:
libqtgui4-4.6.2-9mdv2010.1
libqtcore4-4.6.2-9mdv2010.1
libqtsvg4-4.6.2-9mdv2010.1
skype-2.1.0.81-69.1mib2010.1
Any ideas?

I have installed it yesterday, in 2010.1 64bit just clean installed from the final DVD free ISO:
I encountered no problem at all, during the installation phase!

The only problem I had, I had to disable PULSE: Pulse and Skype were not so friends...

I noticed that the all thing called PULSE, in 2010.1 seems really pretty NOT USABLE!!!
Why the hell persist to insist Pulse, when you can not even use the mixer with dignity:
I have a Creative Sblaster Audigy IV and enabling Pulse, I can not use it properly...

I remember you that you must have the main32/main32updates repositories enabled, as skype need some libs from those 32bit repos to install and work.

Otherwise, you could have some old libs, into your install, with dependencies problems

My machine was a fresh install from a 2010.0 dvd a week or so ago, then updated to cooker, so any further thoughts on how to fix?

Me, no!

My experiences are made only with fresh install of 2010.1, or 2010.0

from your log I see a problem with some old rpm, but is not possible understand more...

Hi xircon.

Anyway, I installed skype for 2010.0 in my cooker RC2, a few weeks ago, following this how-to
http://mib.pianetalinux.org/mib/forum/v ... 142#p11291

(How to install rpms for 2010.0 in 2010.1)

Code: Select all

urpmi.addmedia MIB-basic_2010.0-32 http://mib.pianetalinux.org/MIB/2010.0/32/basic/
urpmi skype
urpmi.removemedia MIB-basic_2010.0-32
with no problem at all.

(I don't know if that can be useful for you now)

But you upgraded 2010.0 to cooker. ...cough ... cough....

Hi xircon,

maybe it isn't a skype package problem,

try to install

urpmi libqtcore4

maybe it's a cooker package problem

Regards

Dago68

ps: MIB doesn't test our packages with cooker repositories.
